About the book
I wrote The Child Behind the Behavior for parents trying to understand a child whose anxiety, sensitivity, ADHD, autism or emotional intensity makes ordinary moments harder than they look. A refusal, explosion or withdrawal may be telling you something about capacity, fear, shame, sensory load or a need your child cannot yet name.
The core idea is to see the child beneath the behavior while still protecting safety and holding limits. You will also meet the parts of you that enter the room when parenting gets hard. Understanding, support and repair belong together. You and your child can begin again.
Buy the book on AmazonHow your reflection follows the book
The reflections here are generated from the book’s full manuscript and framework, using authored prompts adapted from its chapters and exercises. Your description and age band guide possible readings of the signal, the need and the feeling, followed by a question about you and your child and a grounding note. The responses hold several possibilities lightly and keep limits, support and repair in view.
THE FRAMEWORK BEHIND THE REFLECTION
Understand the signal. Keep the connection.
The book follows what came before the behavior, what the child may be signaling, what protective patterns may be present, and what the parent’s own reaction may be carrying. Understanding belongs with safety, boundaries, support and repair. This tool adapts Chapters 1–11 and the Behavior as Signal Worksheet, with the child and parent maps and recovery sequence.
The age bands provide broad prompts. The question is what your actual child needed in that moment.
