DAVID H. WEVER / THE BOOK’S CENTRAL DISTINCTIONBY DAVID H. WEVER
About the book
The Neurodivergent Self is for you if ADHD, autism, sensory needs, executive-function pain or the effort of appearing fine has left you wondering why life costs so much. I keep one distinction clear throughout the book: neurodivergence is not the defense. Protective patterns can form around the pain of being misunderstood, shamed, overloaded or forced to mask.
Your Real Self lives within the nervous system you actually have. Your gifts matter, and so do your limits, exhaustion and need for support. The work is to understand what you carry and build a life with more room for your needs, honest choices and connection. Small changes count, and you choose a pace that fits your circumstances.

The reflections here are generated from the book’s full manuscript and framework, using authored prompts adapted from its chapters and exercises. Your chosen area and the patterns you describe guide reframes about capacity, shame, protection and support, then three small experiments. The responses keep strengths and real difficulties together, with choices you can adjust, pause or keep private.
THE FRAMEWORK BEHIND THE REFLECTION
Support the self within your actual nervous system.
The book separates neurodevelopmental difference from protective adaptations around shame, overload and misunderstanding. The Real Self includes your actual body, needs, limits and gifts. These reflections adapt the capacity, masking, parts, sensory, executive-function and communication exercises in Chapters 2–11 and Appendices A–F. Strengths can coexist with real difficulty. Small changes and safe-enough choices give you room to participate.
You can explore a need without deciding on a label. You can pace personal disclosure to your circumstances and keep a support that makes life more workable.
